Nandhi peeps out from his behind.Īll six mathas are seen in Sugasanam posture with their right leg touching the pedestal, whereas, Naanmugi's left leg does so. Sarappali, bracelets on shoulder and hands are shown. His left hand is placed on the thigh and the right hand on the left knee in Kadaga hastham. Veerabadhra is seen on a separate pedastal in Maharaja leelasana (மஹாராஜ லீலாசனம்) posture. The panel comprises of east facing six mathas and Veerabadhra (a form of Shiva) and Chamundi seated facing each other on southern and northern side of the panel respectively. The walls of the mandapam encloses the cave rock and the Sapthamatha rock. The front mandabam, a later addition is called as "Saptha rishi mandabam" (சப்த ரிஷி மண்டபம்). Sapthamatha sculptures are carved on the southern face of the rock in which Neelakanteeswarar cave is excavated.
